land, stretch for over 1200 km align the coast from Orissa to Tamilnadu
and reaching far inland from the fertile delta of the Godavari and Krishna
rivers to the semi-arid Decan Plateau, it’s not a place that receives
many tourists. The state capital, Hyderabad, although run-down in parts,
is an undoubtedly atmospheric city dating from the late sixteenth century.
Its endless bazaars, eclectic Salar Jung museum and the mighty Golconda
Fort nearby make it an enticing place to spend a day or two. Outlying
areas are home to the modern hi-tech company offices. By contrast, the
adjacent twin city of Secunderabad excels only in characterlessness.
A
melting pot of Muslim and Hindu cultures, the capital of Andhra Pradesh
comprises the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad, with a combines
population of around six million. Secunderabad, of little interest to
visitors, is the modern administrative city found by the British, whereas
